Back from the Ethers

My last blog entry on this account happened in spring 2009, when I started living in San Francisco. Many, many things have happened in the last 4 years. I now live in Bloomington, IN and am attending Indiana University's Master's program in Telecommunications.

Stoked on life.

Lots of comp time

Amarye - "Elephant" - GFX ending

Working 5 days straight on 2 computers with FCP, After Effects and Cinema 4D, I was able to scrap together some 3D graphics and effects. I've posted the ending, which involved the most work. I still have to rotoscope the intro effect, however, that should be done by the end of this week. I can say I am satisfied with the outcome, given the situation around this video and the GFX. Basically I had a friend who was going to make them, and he kept jerking me around for about 6 months, and then finally flaked out and no one can get a hold of him. Therefore, the plans for the GFX that he knew how to make, I know had to figure a solution for.

I am happy to have them finishing up, and I've started gettting some positive feedback about the ending I posted. I am excited to post it in its entirety, and to begin entering it in competitions and try to get it on TV!

My friend Jess Gago is visiting from Bloomington, IN this week. Actually today she is renting a car and driving to Santa Cruz, so not all week visiting! It's good to have a friend here.

Zannel.com's Followpalooza music contest that myself and Danny Lannon are coordinating is starting off fairly well. We're supposed to get 100 bands to fill it up in the first month. After the first week and a half there is 40 or so. It's such a great contest for independent musicians though, it's kinda wierd to think I have to sell it to people even though it's free..... interesting mind set.

I crossed over the 2000 followers mark on twitter yesterday, joy!

I went to craigslist and found raining sunshine in San Francisco

I supposed since I usually have nothing better to do 4 out 7 days a week, I get to spend time thinking about my life and looking for work.... this makes for wondering feelings on the inside.

Well as I walked to Zannel HQ today, it was raining, and also sunny. I thought this was quite fitting, esp. after going onto CL and finding no potential job opportunities.... where did people find jobs in the media industry before CL? I must confess... I did make one contact. A fellow named Paul is producing a self written pilot for a SciFi show. We chatted on the phone a little a bit. He is going to bring me on to be his second eyes as a producer, as well as AC.... it's just a bit of cash, but anything is something right now. My job at the website makes it possible for me to pay my bills, but it's not a way to live a life. I would like to pay off my student debt. I would like to start an independent production house. I would like to be happy. However I am only able to cover my bills. I am able to make some ghetto videos on the side for free and meet local DJs and musicians. I am able to say, I live in San Francisco.

I went to Craigslist and found raining sunshine..... think about it.

Followpalooza Contest

Win Recording Session with Grammy-winning Producer Warren Riker, Play show w/ Scissors for Lefty @ Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco, Mentor Session with Authentik Records, a Flip camera, and Spotlight interview with Zannel.com - that's the Grand Prize. 1st runner up plays show w/ Scissors for Lefty @ Bottom of the Hill, Mentor session wtih Tricycle Records and spotlight interview with Zannel.com .

This contest is focused towards promoting and exposing independent and unsigned musical talent. While the prizing is the forefront of the rewards/benefits of competing, the main benefit is the musician(s) becoming apart of a worldwide community. Zannel.com won 2008 Best Mobile Social Network and has been growing leeps in the Blogger and Tech Info world. They brought myself and a fellow named Daniel Lannon (leader singer of The Frail) on board to reach out to the music community. The services of Zannel are great, and for Music, they really have some potential. Linking address to maps, with photos or video (think shows or tours), live updates from a mobile phone to your Zannel.com account feeds out to your Myspace, Twitter, Facebook, and more.

It's super fun, and I really encourage people to check it out. What is unfortunate is that Zannel has alot of features, and it's difficult to learn these features on the first glance. It takes time to learn to use it and then to build your community of following and followers.

In the long run it's all about Live updates, for whomever or wherever, and your choice to Follow anything that is interesting to you - in REAL TIME!!!

First on the Third

Well then, here's to the Web! I am trying to figure out the best way to streamline my content and blogging. Currently I have a www.Zannel.com account @ www.zannel.com/gjp_photography . This feeds into my Twitter @ www.twitter.com/lifeofgarrett . Next this goes into my FB account, which now also takes straight from my Zannel.com! I've also got a myspace account and two personal websites. I guess I am just seeing what all is possible in the flow of information on the web.

I've been partying with Joey 'Pleasuremaker' McGuire and Oz 'Senor Oz' McGuire lately here in SF. The Bros. McGuire have their hands in many scenes here in the Bay. Mainly, Joey's band, The Pleasuremaker Band, has been playing all over the place! These guys also host a weekly party at the Elbo Room called Afrolicious! These guys host some great Funk-Soul rhythms and vibrations!

Also, I've made a new Friend with a cute French girl named Nomi. She is working an Internship position at 6 degrees records and starting a blog about her travels in America and the music she experiences! She is happy to host my videos and photos!
